Don’t Tell Donald Trump, but Sometimes Losing is Winning!

Today is International Women’s Day, a day to celebrate the incredible women in our lives and shine a light on the fight for gender equality.  We are all stronger when we lift each other up, work together and accept each other as equal, yet unique, individuals.  In this spirit, I wish to share with you my experience as part of Mompreneurs, a National organization of female business owners.

This past weekend I was privileged to attend the 2017 Mompreneur® Conference as a Finalist for the 2017 Mompreneurs® Award of Excellence.  What an amazing two days!  The women in attendance were intelligent, hard working, supportive and fun!  While I did not win the title of, “Mompreneur® of the Year”, I gained so much from The Mompreneur® Conference: new friends, updated business skills and fresh inspiration!  (Please check out the very deserving winner, and my new friend, Dana Shortt

I was attempting to sum up my experience in my own words, when I discovered the writing of Michelle Emson, a Finalist for the The 2017 Mompreneurs® Momentum Award.   I realized that she had perfectly and eloquently expressed my thoughts.  I credit Michelle, the creator and owner of Sanctuary Studios Inc,, for the following:

“I am still super high from the past three days, and two months. I have met, and come to know, some simply incredible, amazing women; women who are changing the face of commerce; women who are making substantial changes to the lives of others, to their community, and to humanity.

I am humbled and honoured to be a part of this incredible community and of this movement. One recurring theme, that I heard over and over during the past few weeks, is that this was not a competition – at least not in the traditional sense. Yes, we wanted to win, of course we did, we’re human, BUT, we didn’t want to win for the glory of defeating an opponent; instead, we wanted to win for the opportunity to leverage that win for the benefit of our cause, our passion, our clients, and our business. This is a totally different dynamic and mindset from a traditional competition.

I must applaud the entire Mompreneurs team for creating and executing such an incredible event. I have attended a LOT of conferences but none, not a single one, held my attention to the point that I did not want to miss one single minute of ANY of the presentations.

Finally, congratulations to my dear friend Maria Locker for having the vision to create something so dynamic, so full of supportive feminine energy, so valuable – and, for having the strength, courage, resilience, determination, and health to come back and lead this conference.

I wish you, the Mompreneurs organization, and every one of us, every success in 2017. Success that will be derived from incredible energy and opportunity from having participated in this event; from stepping out of our comfort zone and into our power. Don’t stop now ladies; this is just the beginning.”

If you are a female business owner, (you do not have to be a mom) or have a business idea that you wish to pursue in the future,  I highly encourage you to reach out to the Mompreneur group in your area.  You will find women who celebrate your ideas and work together to empower one another.

In celebration of International Women’s Day and Mompreneurs, we will be keeping our 10% discount on the website all month long.

Happy International Women’s Day!
